Nuclear Theory at the University of Washington
Nuclear theory at the University of Washington encompasses a broad range of cutting-edge research, spanning all areas of modern nuclear theory. The Institute for Nuclear Theory (INT), the InQubator for Quantum Simulation (IQuS), and the Nuclear Theory Group (NTG) together form a highly collaborative research environment, with strong synergies among these groups helping define and strengthen the local effort.
Research spans scales from QCD and the structure of nucleons and nuclei to strongly interacting quantum many-body systems, nuclear reactions, matter under extreme conditions, and neutron stars. These efforts draw on a wide range of theoretical and computational tools, including effective field theory, lattice gauge theory, many-body methods, high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and quantum simulation and computing.
The breadth of expertise and close interactions among the INT, IQuS, and NTG provide a distinctive environment for addressing fundamental questions in nuclear science and for developing new connections among nuclear physics, astrophysics, and quantum information science.
