PREX-II: Measuring the Neutral Weak Form-Factor of 208Pb

S@INT Seminar

The recent PREX-II experiment has measured the parity-violating asymmetry in elastic electron scattering off the lead-208 nucleus. This new result will be presented alongside the experimental methods used to perform the challenging measurement. Precise measurement of Apv provides a determination of the neutron skin thickness in lead-208 and constrains the density dependence of the symmetry energy in the nuclear equation of state. PREX-II has implications for the central density of saturated nuclear matter and astronomical observations of neutron stars.
