Schedule of the CSB-II Meeting (April 19, 2002)

Charge-symmetry breaking (CSB) is a consequence of the quark mass difference and electromagnetic effects. The effective chiral theory of low-energy QCD suggests relatively large CSB in reactions involving neutral pions. The reaction DD ap0 proceeds through CSB, and the measurement of its cross section near threshold will be performed during the recently extended lifetime of the IUCF Cooler. The measurement could provide a verification of the effective theory prediction, and a determination of the light quark mass difference. The workshop will begin with experimental presentations. The potential importance of the measurement, and the challenging nature of the necessary calculation, requires a very carefully executed computation of the cross section which involves different kinds of expertise. The goal of this workshop is the creation of the necessary collaborations by identifying the important experimental observables and bringing together theorists interested in participating.
